Since I can't justify the expense of a new 5-string bass right now, I decided to expand the range of my current 4-string. The trick is figuring out which is the right replacement part so I don't end up doing damage.
It's ready for its first shakedown cruise! I decided to remove all MAME games from RetroPie and stick with the ones that are most appropriate for the SNES-style controller; namely, Atari 2600, NES, and SNES games.
I couldn't be much happier right now. Considering how much difficulty I had getting PiPlay off the ground (and after all that it never even flew), this has been a dream. Everything works! No wrestling with config files, no downloading special drivers, nothing. It. Just. Works.
Getting RetroPi installed on the SD card was child's play. Making it usable has been something of an adventure.
Can I turn a Raspberry Pi into a retro arcade machine? We'll see!
