Last night's heavy rain took its toll on my studio. The leak in the roof wasn't that large at all. Unfortunately, however, it was directly above my primary laptop. The thing was covered in water this morning. I immediately drained it as well as I could, then took it apart to let its insides dry out. Maybe tomorrow I'll slap it back together and give it a shot.
On the bright side, the majority of my most needed files reside on Dropbox, so I haven't lost any of those. And in my experience, even if the rest of a computer is damaged, the hard drive usually survives. That gives me hope for the lesser-used, less vital files. As for the older stuff, that has already been backed up. So even if the hard drive is toast, it won't be a devastating loss.
Adding insult to injury, I have a DVD from my town's library in the drive. Oops!
At this point all I can do is wait for the laptop to dry out, and then hope that State Farm comes here like a good neighbor. In the mean time, my iPad still works, and my recording laptop is available for production. All is not lost!
