The film world lost one of its great artists on Sunday when Stan Winston died after a seven year battle against multiple myeloma cancer. His most recent work can be seen in the form of Iron Man’s suit, but his legacy of excellence can be found in so many of the top films of the last quarter century: The Terminator, Predator, The Thing, Galaxy Quest and so many others benefited from his artistry. As if that weren’t enough, he also won Oscars for his work onAliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Jurassic Park.
He truly was an artist and managed to remain so even while working in an industry that often seems to foresake artistry. His creativity will be missed.
